powder gets in the rim recess and the cartridge doesn't seat which locks up the cylinder. Plus there is a lot of variation in rim thickness and rim diameter these days. I would never have rebated chambers in any of my guns. That is how they did it in years past but very few gun makers do that these days. Just not a good idea.
