Reeder Custom Guns - 429 GNR or 429 DE

i have had a couple of folks recently ask if our 429 GNR was the same as the new 429 DE that is chambered in the Desert Eagle. They are not the same. The 429 DE is (I think) the 50 AE necked down to 44. Our 429 GNR is the 454 necked down to 44. The Desert Eagle 429 is showing a 240 grain at 1600. Our 429 will put the same bullet out at almost 250 fps faster. So they are completely different.

What revolver could you chamber this in? Contender barrel? Wonder if handloads would improve performance? Wonder what case volume is of the two 429’s.

much pressure and taper to the neck. The case capacity of the 429 GNR is several grains over the 429 DE. I will measure then this weekend and see. The 429 GNR is probably the optimum 44 caliber as it is almost a straight case, which lets it function without backing out and locking up the cylinder plus it is based on the 454 Casull case so it is a tall case with lots of capacity. It gives you the performance of the 445 Super mag but works in a standard size revolver.
