But I never could find the correct New Frontier barrel generation for correct thread pitch. I bailed on the project and it became my O.M. Ruger .38-40. I have ONE .44 WCF. I took a stls. .44 Mag. SBH cylinder and self-chambered it to .43-40. I remember reading long ago about this Spankenburger guy doing it in G&A magazine since he had a woody for a .44-40 in a modern gun and no one was making one to suit him. Loading .430" bullets it works pretty good, soft lead cowboy factory loads shoot well. Gary embelished the cylinder for me to make it special.
I once shot a cylinder full of .44-40 through my .45 Colt New Vaquero. I was scratching my head why my groups opened up to about 5-1/2" all of a sudden at 25 yds. Cases looked fine, for a .45 Colt, then I read the case heads! Didn't hurt anything at all.
