Reeder Custom Guns - Rainy weekend. So whadda do?

I needed more bullets for the 300 GNR, a LBT 100 gr. FN-GC-HP, (rock chucks will be out in a couple months) and since the .309 sizer die was already in the luber I cast enough for a couple seasons of chucks.

Next was a LBT 50 gr. GC-HP for the Coyote Classic in .218 Mashburn Bee. A super chuck killer in its own right, it's just that the 300 GNR does it so much better. This mould gave me all kinds of fits, it's been a few years since I cast it much. I ran over 500 bullets with it and ended up keeping only about 370 or 80.

Next up was another LBT mould in WFN-GC-260 gr. for the 455 GNR, I just wanted a few to play with. I never shoot many of these but it is nice to have a few around when the urge hits.

Last was one that gets shot the very most, the Lyman 454424 at 260 grs. also. Again for the 455 GNR. I like all my different moulds for the 455 but I would probably choose the 424 if I was to only have one .45 cal. mould.

the 454 works for any caster since you simply size down to .452" if that's what you need. Or perhaps you toy with pre-war Colts or have an old Webley laying about, they should drop .454-.455" and will fill those old bores. However if they drop .452" it's a less enjoyable situation.

Why RCBS would drop the 454 over the 452 is anyone's guess. Perhaps the mass consumer reads manuals verbatim with no notion of the broad concept of what is actually going on. Since you are sizing anyway it matters little if you go a couple thousandths smaller for your pet Ruger. Must have been the boss's nephew.
