the 454 works for any caster since you simply size down to .452" if that's what you need. Or perhaps you toy with pre-war Colts or have an old Webley laying about, they should drop .454-.455" and will fill those old bores. However if they drop .452" it's a less enjoyable situation.
Why RCBS would drop the 454 over the 452 is anyone's guess. Perhaps the mass consumer reads manuals verbatim with no notion of the broad concept of what is actually going on. Since you are sizing anyway it matters little if you go a couple thousandths smaller for your pet Ruger. Must have been the boss's nephew.
