Reeder Custom Guns - Guess I'm just getting old, is life getting more complicated

I built me up a tactical shotgun, sort of a "do-it'all" but more simplified without all that crap hanging off the thing, seems so trendy. Part of the charm of a shotgun is the handiness and fit, swinging into position and pointing like an angry Granny. Seems many folks these days take a handy arm then hang 3 lbs. of ammo off one side, a pound of blinding torch off the other, a sling that's more of a harness, maybe a banana clip conversion! I just don't get it, makes me feel old. Can you really use 5K lumens? The light beam that bright should produce recoil!!!

I found a set of the fancy Magpul furniture on sale for half price. It was Hunter Orange but that was fine by me. Later I found it is symbolic of "less lethal" weapons in the tactical circles, hence the half price. My bad, I didn't know. I can see it easily propped against a dark wall. I don't know if I will ever get any grief over the orange?

Next I wanted to attach a small Picatinny rail to the forend slots to be able to snap a light on it for farm use. Running outside typically to see what the nighttime ruckus is about. They have about 5-6 options! Cripes, too many choices. I think the cheapest and most simple is what I want, just a 5 slot rail, not a cantilever thingy. Am I missing the boat? Something I an not seeing? 95% of the time it will NOT have a light on it. So I don't want some protuberance when it's not. Also Magpul has a regular mount and extra crispy, not sure which I need or want. Has something to do with the fitting into the slotted furniture. Any experience?

Not exactly my shotgun but looks very close, shows where I want some way to mount a small light or rail. Here or the other side. I guess it would fit underneath too.

sell or consign and the gun must weigh at least 12 lbs. They have so much junk on it, lasers, red dot, light, drum magazine single point sling, M-4 stock and so on. And they wonder why they can't hit anything with it. That was pretty much what i was whining and bitching about yesterday on the new stuff that is at the SHOT show. A gazillion gimmicks guaranteed to make you a perfect shot at 1000 yards, standing offhand. But i gues them spending every penny they can scrape up on these gimmicks is what keeps the industry strong.

four "cantilever" options and then rails from 4-5 slots to about 15. That's just one notion. Prices vary from $10 to about $50 for just adding a Picatinny rail to that one slot. Then there is polymer or aluminum....lol

The Chinese have it figured out. Off Ebay they will sell you a mag tube mount, with extra Picatinny, and a powerful LED light all for $20 delivered (no batteries though). It probably works too, for a while.

I'm gonna blindfold myself and throw a dart at a Magpul brochure.

If you really want it, I can give you a ration of grief on your stock selection. Seems practical although ugly. Cost must have been a high motivator. You experimentation is always entertaining.

I'm sure someone has an idea fitting the label. To my figuring either something is potentially lethal or not. But I'll claim ignorance for throwing our $75 for a stock set normally over $150. I didn't like the ugly flat black pistol grip stuff that was on it to begin and I sold it on the internet for around $50 so I was really out only $25. I guess someone could paint it anyway.

Color aside it feels really solid and good, very thin and adjustable with those spacers. Sort of looked German'ish to me with the side sling provisions. My gun has a 21" vent rib barrel and screw chokes. Too nice to replace with a cylinder bore and bead. It's on a Magnum Express chassis but has an earlier chrome bolt in it. The crappy poly J-safety trigger group too. The 870 is not perhaps the all time best pump shotgun but it's sure not the worst either, and with all those accessories out there it is fun to play with.

I just visited (2) good local gun stores to no avail. Now I'm validated to get what I need online. I'll figure it out and post some pictures. *870 Express guns have (2) deep dimples on the mag tube right under the barrel band lug. This prevents adding an extended magazine tube. Of course it's great sport to efficiently defeat this feature and stick a long tube on there. A poke to the eye of whomever had that stupid idea. I just drill holes larger than the dimples and smooth the edges. Works perfectly. I added a 4-shot extension to run equal to the 20" mark on my barrel. So it's a 9-shot full up with 2-3/4" shells. Normally that's plenty for my needs. No need for 6-7 more hanging off the left side of the receiver. It's slim, trim, and fits me perfectly, not even a sling.

I applaud your frugality with the stock option. You asked for some indignation, and I obliged. I am actually in awe of your creativity. Also I still owe you for saving me from the BSA thumper.I will never be able to repay you for that $14,000 almost horror. THX again my friend. Hope we get together again at the next HHC.

I'm not really cheap, just really good at efficiency. I bought a 1982 Yamaha IT175 for $500 and with a $500 budget I'm getting it ready to race Post-vintage 200cc XC competition for fun. Then it will be worth maybe $1500 on a charitable day. So for my hours of labor and skill I about break even for my fun. So, so, much easier than fettling with a 4-stroke, much less ANYTHING British.

Still, good guns are by far a more profitable pursuit. They take up little space, don't eat much, seldom fall over dead, and with an occasional wipe down will last forever. Plus you can enjoy them in your living room easy chair wearing only your pajamas. LOL

(non-firing guns and plastic knives) are orange color. Also, a lot of toy guns have an orange plug in the barrel to identify it as non-lethal.

I got so beside myself trying to fill those slots with Magpul factory bits I decided it was totally folly anyway. Who wants a light on the sliding part you slap back and forth pumping? I'd slap the action closed and fling my flashlight right off!

I found some tube mounts that I will be ordering, less than $10.

with only what appeared to be a entire roll of black electrical tape! You know what? It WORKED! Perfectly actually, held zero. Was not going anywhere until someone cut it off with a knife.

Another time Doug and I were forming cases with our Encore handguns. We had not yet put scopes on the slick barreled guns. At 33 yds. we were getting sub 4" groups POA! We were just throwing up aligning down the tube shooting and were really surprised how close you can get "Brown Bess" style.
