My wife wants a Trail Rider style revolver and we are brainstorming what round it should be. She has a 356 GNR and loves it but wants a different round and something smaller. I was thinking something between 218 Bee to 357 Mag range. Any suggestions?
Gary's 250 GNR is tough to beat...

Easy to load with cast or jacketed bullets and kills far beyond it's size would have you believe.
Huey, what if you had to buy of the shelf?

What caliber would you buy ? I like the 218 Bee?
Just a thought. Pete
I'd hate to try and find 218 Bee ammo on a shelf...

25-20 is actually easier to find. I chose the 250 GNR for several reasons. Including the OPs owning a 356 GNR, so probably a handloader.
Huey I agree with you, But

I got Caught with my pants down and all I had was a GNR. But I was nowhere next to my reloading bench. So I miss out hunting that year. No big deal. One of or fellow Misfit was willing to drive up and give me a few rounds. But I did not want him to drive all that way. So I like to have a few Gary Reeder off the shelf rounds. Pete
Off the shelf... maybe a 327 Federal

More powerful than 327 Federal. Simple to make, run a 357 case in sizing die. Load with 100 to 125gr. bullet.
That's why you gotta get a 2nd cylinder

Custom Cartridge and he could have had some GNR ammo out to you in a few days.
I second the 250GNR. IT would be a

Great Trail Rider on a single 6 frame!
I second the .250 but don't discount a 240

One pass thru the size die and instant cases. Mine has a 6" barrel and pushes a 60 grn to around 1800 fps.
That sounds like a strong possibility

Off the shelf the .327 Fed. cannot be topped.

It not only shoots the powerful .327 but .32 ACP, .32 S&W, .32 Long, and .32 H&R. I've been doing it for years.
Gary has several custom rounds in the lineup. The .25's are very good. I have a .255 Banshee on the .22 Hornet. Sort of a .25 K-hornet with longer body and shorter neck. Ballistically the same as the .250 GNR. Huey has both so I'd listen to him as to shootability. Making cases for the Banshee is a non-issue. The old .32-20 is good too but off the shelf ammo is a bit hard to find and uninspiring. Reloaded hot it's the equal of the .327. But cornered I'd say the .327 is just hard to beat, if loading is an issue.
Second that

The 327 with 100 gr slugs is not too far off a 357 and the 85 gr slugs are a great varmint round.
you forgot the 321 GNR. It will beat the 327 Federal by at

Likes the idea of a 250 GNR. Maybe we'll do a "his & hers" matching pair.

This one isn't in your red reloading manual. Any more ballistics you can share?
Is the parent case 357 Mag? If so, can a 7-shot GP100 be rechambered for such?
