Bought a lightweight Ruger #1 so chambered. Also has the versatile .310" groove barrel and shoots .308-.312" bullets without discrimination.

With CFE Black Powder, I can get an honest 2500 fps with a 123 grn SST Bullet. On the opposite end, I can load the 100 grn XTP over Unique and mimic the old 32-20 with minimal noise or fuss.

A truly underestimated round for the reloader. Starline now offers brass...

sort of subliminally. Not really conscious of my interest. I don't know much about the gun, I suppose it uses Mini-30 mags? Also it begs the question how does it work with the surplus military plinking stuff?

In that cal. we have only an AK pistol and ancient Chinese SKS. I once thought of modding the SKS so it was a straight pull repeater and didn't throw my brass 20' straight up. I have several bullet moulds and reloading dies, just never got around to loading for it. The CZ 527 Mannlicher has always been on my radar in that caliber too.

the old Mosin Nagant ... back in the 60's ... 70's Lyman included loading data for the thing! I've been pulling the steel bullets and replacing them with the Speer 125 gr. .311" soft points. Crimping with the 30-30 Lee collett die. Guess I'm gonna have to buy a set of loading dies for it since I have some Winchester brass with standard Boxer primers.

I think they start with a fresh rifling tool (larger bore dimension) and use it until it is worn slap dab out (smaller dimension). So that is what produces the variations from around .308" to .314". You just have to find what bullet fills the bore and have at it.

I sadly sold a Sako re-produced, Fin captured, and rebuilt, Nagant. It was actually really nice, good sights and trigger, the equal of about any military type of that era. We bought a couple of the 880 rnd. tin boxes and had a blissful time blowing large fireballs.

The data I'm using is Hodgdon and limited to 40,000 +/- psi. With the Single Shot action, I can seat bullets out and increase pressure a bit. I'll get there, but not trying to make something it's not.

The #1 in 30-30 is showing great promise too. Using 150 grain or heavier bullets and Leverevolution Powder puts it in a new territory.

Leverevolution Powder seems to be "the" powder for the 30-30 for me. It bests most other by 125-150 fps so far.

The 303 British landed five one shot kills out to 200+ yards. Including two really nice Blue Wildebeest.

The #1 shoots sub 1" with good ammo...

30-30 with LVR and 130 gr. Speer bullet

I'm getting 2500+ fps with a Hornady 150 grn SST...

The 130 is running 2750 out of his gun.
