Reeder Custom Guns - I wish someone would bring back the Pachmayr

Dominator for the 1911 fire control platform. I never had one but bought the VHS they put out and watched Bro. Hal Swiggett shoot stuff at the Y-O and nearby area. It looked so simple and functional. I still have it on my list to buy an old one and experience it. If memory serves it was not that many parts. The shell-holder type extractor was brilliant. The recoil looked barrel whippy in larger calibers, not wanting a .44 or .454 on a 1911 grip. A 7mm with a brake would be dandy.

THE ORIGINAL WAS BEAUTIFULLY CRAFTED .22 HORNET. PRODUCTION MODELS (THE DOMINATOR) WERE NOT NEARLY AS NICELY FINISHED. I HAVE THEM IN SEVERAL CHAMBERINGS INCLUDING .357 MAX AND 7-08.

so it makes for a very compact package in relation to the actual barrel length. I think one of the things that hurt it were guys shooting .44 mag and .308 with no, or ineffective, brakes. It was offered in 7mm BR which would have been a delight and I'd love a 7mm GNR in one. The extractor was basically a "shell holder" like on a reloading press but not exchangeable other than an assembly (I think).

The idea is you slip off your slide from your pet 1911 and drop this on to make it a long range hunting handgun. Of course you'd instantly want a dedicated frame.

If anybody sees one for sale I'd like to know about it as I truly do want to experience it from the early 1980's. Springfield offered a break barrel design very shortly called a S.A.S.S. in the mid 1980's but I have no experience with it at all. It dropped very quickly.

recoil and the 1911 frame isn't the best at handling recoil. Also, this was a time period when the 44 Magnum recoil was considered horrendous. So a 308 or 7-08 recoil in a handgun was way more than most could handle.
