Compensated gun writers play. Most aren't paid to review guns, they are paid to sell guns.
The same thing has gone on for decades with the 30-30 and 45-70. Everybody has one, so we convince them now there is something better.
I do agree with him on the 6.5x55. Have owned several and truly love the cartridge. Present guns include a #1 International and 14" Encore.
I'll say what I always was taught. If you want one but it. If you don't then just let it pass.

If a cartridge isn't successful, it's because it was a bad idea. If it is successful, it was still bad, just got favorable reviews. How does anybody win with these rules?
We've all seen the introduction of the 307 Winchester and 308 Marlin trying to dethrone the old 30-30. Guess how that ended?
Ditto on the 45-70. A 300 grain 45 bullet at 1600 fps from a 454 Casull will shoot through dinosaurs. But, a 300 grain 45 bullet at 1800 fps from the 45-70 has a rainbow trajectory and useless. Maybe my math is wrong?
Our PH in Africa told Daren his 303 British should have been left home and a 300 Magnum was the correct gun. Yet, the 303 British killed animals over 700 lbs with one shot. I will admit the PH backtracked and admitted the guns effectiveness.

The comment you made by the use of the grand ole 303 British states it perfectly. I am sure that the PH has seen a lot of shmucks who could not hit a cow in the ass with a snow shovel and the use of a 300 Plus magnum made up for some ineptitude on the part of the hunter.

Awhile back I bought a Remington CS model 7 MS in 308 because the laminate walnut full length Mannlicher stock look sooo good. Shooting that .308 short barrel light rifle at the range was an eye opener.. The 260 Rem. was fairly new so I had Remington re-barrel to that caliber.. She became a most wonderful, accurate rifle that does its best with 140gr Core-Lock ammo. I also picked up a black plastic stock from Remington for their Model 7 so I can keep that beautiful stock from getting banged up in the field..![[image]](images/uploaded/201902032014585c574bc2e9635.jpg)
