Interesting horse story, true too!

Some time ago, an old school bud that got killed in a wreck when he was 17, his sister’s adult daughter passed away. She had and cared for a small herd of horses, absolutely loved them. She passed away at home and they came to get the body. The horses were acting strange, congregated at the edge of the yard all looking to the house and watching. As the coroner drove down the long drive and turned on the dirt road, the horses, in single file, marched in parade alongside the wagon and then ran along the road to the edge of the property. Ran as far as they could while the car accelerated, all in formation, single file. Horses are herd animals with a pecking order, that may have explained the order of animals but what did they sense? It was witnessed by several folks and word spread around the county, recording the incident and odd behavior.

We were talking this morning and we recounted that happening. I rode my motorcycle to Todd’s house in the summer to haul hay with him, square bales. He gave me 7 cents per bale cut. We drove an old propane powered Case tractor and long homemade flatbed trailer. We filled the tractor’s tank from the big tank behind the house. It had a liquid line feeding to fill tanks and vehicles. Being compressed liquid it was like liquid hydrogen, instant icicle. Not too dangerous for a pair of 14 yr. olds making money for the summer. Todd died in 1980 and his niece about 10 yr. ago. Todd’s dad passed last week. I heard they still had Todd’s room kept just as he left it that night.
