Reeder Custom Guns - The elephant post made me think a bit

I was wondering what animal is off your list to hunt?

I know some people have an affinity for some type of animal for whatever reason. My friend's wife loves elephants so she would never pull the trigger on one unless it was a life or death situation.

I thought about it a bit and for some reason, I am not sure if I could pull the trigger on one of the big cats. You see, I am a bit of a cat lover. I like the felines although a wild feline and a domestic cat are two vastly different creatures.

Not to sound hypocritical I do think of a cougar hunt once in a while.

are too peaceful, no danger at all. Some folks want one and that is fine, but just not me.

saw so many in family groups that walked right up to us, probably out of curiosity, the wife and I told the PH no way...

we had a HUGE bull giraffe come in at 15 yards. Wasnt something I was looking for, but that close you could feel him walk around and make the ground shake. The PH had been doing it since '82 and that bull was in the top 3 he had ever seen. We watched it come in and he towered over the others in the herd. Then he spread his legs WAY out and went down for a drink of water. Really something to see.

what you get. A big black maned lion sorta excites me but they start at about $65,000 and up and even selling a bunch of my guns that is out of my pay scale. And I know that sounds hypocritical of me as I spent $22,000 on my Cape Buffalo, (I have bought houses cheaper). John Abraham, our PH, gets a few tags every year for tuskless elephant. They are sort of a freak and they want to get them out of the gene pool. They are bull elephant and just as big as a big tusker but have no tusks. They are about what I spent on the buffalo so it is within reach if I save up my pennies. I really don't know why I would want an elephant or what I would do with it. But I do think about it a bit from time to time.

I guess I need to wait and see what all Colleen takes in about 8 weeks or so and see what I can afford. Knowing her, she will shoot about 50 monkees.

time I looked. This would be a good bull with lots of character that had been a real fighter in his younger years with chipped and banged up horns. He would be a bull that had been run out of the breeding herd by a younger bull. Still a great trophy.

The next step is a mature bull with a nice set of horns and they are usually around $17500.

The next step is a top 20 bull, one that would rank somewhere in the top 20 in the world and they are usually $22,000.

A top 5 bull runs around $27000. John told me he had seen 2 or 3 big bulls on this place that would hit top 5 in the world. The bull I took is currently #2 in the world handgun. Due to me bringing so many folks there hunting John gave me a break to the next lower level at $22,000. I had talked to him a month or so before the hunt and had set my mind on a really big bull. That was when I sold off a lot of my personal guns, about $17,000 worth of them. So the price of the big bull wasn't too bad at all. If I had to shell out $22,000 and hadn't sold any of my guns, I probably wouldn't have taken the shot. But I haven't regretted it at all. I am not getting any younger and John and I have passed up probably 2 dozen bulls in the past before he pointed to this bull trotting at us and said "there is your bull".

Do they give them minerals or food to keep them hanging around?

they don't get a lot of minerals in that desert like terrain so maybe they put out a mineral block or salt. I didn't see any others while we were there.

especially with dogs in the snow. Colleen and I both have taken lions. Mine weighed 140 lbs. Hers was a monster at a bit over 200 lbs. Both used the 7 GNR.
