are all built to "MIL SPECS" which means all parts are made to military specs. That is why most parts will just drop in, no fitting required. This is so a military armorer can fix a weapon in the field and get it back to the operator pronto. So for all practical purposes they are all the same. If you pay more than $800 to $850 for one you are being had and are paying a lot extra for the name.

We build custom ARs and have boxes of triggers, firing pins, springs, forends, stocks etc etc. Building an AR is easy if you have a couple of special tools. I have several and my favorite is an Armalite. I didn't say it was any better, just my favorite. I shot in 3 gun combat matches with an Armalite and it never let me down. But that doesn't make it any better than any of the others. I also have a Colt. It is OK, but no better than any of the others. In fact the Colt of today is just so so at best. By that I mean it is more expensive than several other brands but not that much better.

Now is the time to buy an AR. Actually several months ago was the best time but they are still affordable. My opinion? Buy a DPMS, or Bushmaster or a ????? They are all the same. Buy whichever is the affordable to you. If some part is not right for you, it can be changed cheaply.

A humble opinion from someone that sees the ARs guts every day and shoots them every day. The main thing is STAY AWAY, FAR AWAY from all steel cased ammo. It will destroy your chamber big time. Other than that, go with the one that calls your name.

Once again, thank you Gary. Great forum.

I have owned any slew of AR-15 rifles and got rid of all of them accept my DPMS Oricle. Yes I have modified it with a Giessel trigger and a 20" barrel. My brother owns many AR's of different flavors and cost more than mine. They don't shoot any better.

Great information, especially for those of us
