Looking online at a firearm auction, I noticed several guns
owned by Colonel Charles Askins. Some of the rifles are described as custom conversions from right hand to left hand bolt actions. I am surprised I have never heard of this, as I am left handed.
Does anyone have any experience with this type of work?
A good friend of mine had a 1903 Springfield

Seems like it would be cost prohibitive.
It looks like a lot of work.

your car to a rear engine vehicle. Every part of the rifle would have to be changed. You could probably buy 3 or 4 factory left hand rifles for what it would cost.

Since it matters little as to right or left hand. It broke on him though. It might have been India. He was one of the last writers to bag Tiger that I remember.
When did factories start offering left hand bolt guns?

My Remington BDL short action 308 is a left hand, vintage mid 1980’s.
Winchester model 70 300 Win Mag lefties is about 2010 vintage.
Both shoot incredible, all factory, plus scopes.
Savage, Tikka, Sako have southpaw friendly as well.

The Swiss K31 and 1911 straight pull bolt action can be fit with a left-hand op-rod adaptor. Google "left hand swiss k-31" and go to images- there's a few designs. I don't recall if it is compatible with the St. Marie clamp on scope mount, but the Darrel? scout position scope mount definitely works. All non-permanent modifications to the gun. Mount that looooong sawback bayonet and go after some pigs!
