I think that Vortex are like any other brand - they sell some cheaper stuff that is in the realm of 40$ knock off scope quality and they sell some models that can hand with the top end scopes. I have not personally had any failures. I will say, that the two Vortex red dots I have hold zero and track like they should. My gripe is that the dots themselves are not really dots, more like little blobs. I like to have a perfectly round dot, like I see when I look through my Ultra-Dot scopes.
