The HP has an inertia firing pin, that is the hammer does not "move" it all the way in. Inertia finishes the job. This helps prevent it from going off if dropped on the hammer, by design. The HP is not without fault, while started by John Browning it was finished by a Frenchman. The Hammer Spring is a little devil of a device and influences too much for my liking. You actually "bend" it to adjust some characteristics of trigger pull. Too light and you can get light strikes and "Hammer follow" where the sear does not engage the hammer notch and it follows the slide in a malfunction.

I had mine set to a certain pull and it "went back" with time. Very odd to me. I find the tuning of the HP needing a very skilled effort with complete understanding.
