In 1987-88? I killed a Doll sheep with a Super 14 30-30 Contender that had been rechambered to 30-30 AI. Used a bullet that has changed 150 gr Speer GS. I would use what Huey uses, Hornady SST or maybe Nosler Accubond today.
Nice!

I love it when the 30-30 is still strong and doing its job. Nice kill.
Excellent. One of the world's greatest calibers...

And I guess it was hard to understand. But, with spitzer bullets and Leverevolution powder it is a very capable round. I can match original 30-40 Krag and 303 British ballistics.
A lot of oldtimers took some big game with the 30-30

it was hailed as a flat shooting round in its day ... and it will still work if the nut on the stock has his stuff together.
I'm shooting the 150 grn SST at 2550 fps and..

The 165 grn SST at 2375 fps. A lot can be done with that. The BC is extremely high and bullets are well designed. No doubt the Hornady IB or Nosler Accubond would do as well or better.

will take on just about anything that walks with a 44 Magnum but would laugh at someone doing the same with a 30-30. If they would look at the ballistics they might change their tune. The 44 Mag with the normal 240 grain bullet is just a bit over half the punch of a 30-30. But then again it would be hard visualizing Dirty Harry pointing a 30-30 at the black guy lying outside the bank and saying "do you feel lucky punk, well do ya?" It just doesn't have the same ring.
Right on Dave, old rifles, dead varmints, what's not to like
