Reeder Custom Guns - I'm total crap shooitng fast, I have to admit it.

I'm going for special training this weekend. Mostly legal information but there is some shooting involved. Lots of people know I shoot, a lot. They expect me to be some super shot. I don't want to look foolish. I have (3) 9mm autos.

1. Beretta M92A1
2. FN High Power
3. Glock 21 converted to 9X19.

I went out and shot then as fast as I could manage at 7/15 yds., less than a second per shot. I'm having trouble figuring out regular glasses or bifocals. Can you guess which plate whet to what gun?

From the Arkansas State ECCL course;

(d) The applicant must complete a live-fire proficiency qualification and obtain a score of 35/50 or 70% overall. The instructor may permit the applicant to re-fire the course three (3) times. If the applicant fails to obtain the required score after three (3) attempts at shooting the course, the instructor must wait ninety (90) days prior to allowing the applicant to re-take the enhanced training course.

The fundamentals of the live-fire course are as follows:
(1) Stage 1: 3 yard line –20 Rounds

(A) 5 shots fired in a “one shot exercise” –2 seconds allowed for each shot;
(B) 10 shots fired in a “two shot exercise” –3 seconds allowed for each 2 shot sequence;
(C) 5 shots fired in 10 seconds;

(2) Stage 2: 7 yard line –20 rounds

(A) 5 shots fired in 10 seconds
(B) 5 shots fired in 2 stages: (i) 2 shots fired in 4 seconds;(ii) 3 shots fired in 6 seconds;
(C) 5 shots fired in a “one shot exercise” –3 seconds allowed for each shot;
(D) 5 shots fired in 15 seconds;

(3) Stage 3: 15 yard line –10 rounds

(A) 5 shots fired in 2 stages:(i) 2 shots fired in 6 seconds;(ii) 3 shots fired in 9 seconds;
(B) 5 shots fired in 15 seconds;

(4) All shooting is from the “ready” position;
(5) The target utilized will be a B-27 target. The shooter will be scored “hit” or “miss.” A successful hit will be scored if the round fired cuts the line of the 7 ring or is within the 7 ring of the B-27 target.

on the plates that about 90% of them would score in the 8 ring on a B-27 target. If you'd practice on the B-27 you'd probably feel better, and start shooting faster. Don't be so hard on yourself Scotty! At 3 yards, you could probably pull the trigger as fast as you can and stay in the 9 ring. . .

To be honest I'd really, really, hate to have to shoot someone. The thought of it really bothers me, less than me being a victim or hurting my family of course. I figure I better get some training.

The course of fine is pretty easy. 2 seconds per shot is longer than you might think. I have trouble with focus. It's lots different to me compared to hunting situations. When I have to perform fast while hunting things are different. I know I can manage.

though! Coworker had an issue at a recent ccw refresher course-they where walking down the stairs from the classroom and some guy's gun comes bouncing down the stairs and bounces off his leg! Was not loaded...

If you have practiced your tactical speed load you should be able to meet these requirements easily...... We have a lot of confidence in you!!!

Colt Series 70 Satin Nickel Commander in 9mm Luger. It was a pretty rare bird back then. Really the only other domestic 9mm was the S&W 39 and 59. Being Colt guy I should have pounced on it. Someone else sure did. I think it held 9-10 rounds in a single stack mag. It was about $325, back when a Ruger Super BH was $195. Hardly anyone shot 9mm except in old surplus military guns. None of the JHP back then would open up reliably. 9mm was a turd, everyone shot wheelguns or a .45. They said the Super-Vel 90 gr. was the hot ticket for the Luger cal. serious shooters.

One of my favorite little sleepers is the Star BM, sort of a mini 1911. A fantastic truck gun, I need one before they dry up.

The plates; Bottom was the G21/9mm custom, those big sights and trigger work well. Left is the Beretta, I was a bit wild with it. The sights are very precise but good light on each side of the front. It was my first choice. However the HP really feels good in my hand and it's MKII sights are almost as good as the Beretta. I'm really considering it. No SA/DA confusion either. I may take the Glock for fun, he will let me run it with multiple guns for fun.

On the big target I have to force myself to look at a small part of it, not try and see the whole thing at once. If I can focus on the center ring it works. Like flushing a covey, you got to pick one and shoot at it, not the whole bunch.

I practice but only for accuracy and form when I start my session. Then I move to speed and or distances. I've really become very proficient with my Dan Wesson. [image]

15 yards as fast as I could possibly do. Peep rear sight and green fiberoptic front. One hole from my brothers Sig trying to mess me up. LOL

There is no shooting at all. I think Arkansas does it better.

Not that we should need a permit to defend ourselves...

No one should have to take a class to carry a firearm but they had better understand that they will be held accountable for it's use.

It's amazing how any states feel they need to be a nanny to a gun owner, if I want training I'll go get training at a Gunsite type of location or similar. I must have missed the part of the constitution that said "training class required"...

can carry whatever we want, pretty much wherever we want and anyhow we want. No permit needed.

It's not a permit, an advanced level license to allow carry into any state facility, even the state capital. Not that I NEEDED it but my boss has interest to perhaps allow work carry here at the Public Works. It also precludes some background formalities that are nice.
