I picked it up at my local gun shop this morning. It's been almost 10 years since I last saw it! That is hard to believe but it's true.

I thought about building a gun for that cartridge; for about 3 seconds.
It's a Death Ray! It's a Death Ray! It's a Death Ray!

well ... sorta ... if you put the bullet in the right place ...
It's at least a small cannonball...

You will have to regale us with range reports. Do you still have the mold for it?
I don't have it yet but it's on its way ..

in knowing how the gun left your hands and how you got it back. Thanks.
Without going into too much detail

before I left for Africa I sent it to an old friend, along with dies and 'stuff' for it.
Another old friend emailed me and said he would like to use it to take some deer. I told him where the gun was and included the person holding the gun in the emails so he would know it was ok.
I forgot all about it and years went by. We were busy with other things in Africa and I just never thought about it.
A few months ago the second friend and I were talking and the 480 came up. He could not remember what became of it (he had a brain bleed that has left him with some issues) and was distressed about it. I told him not to worry .. that is was just "stuff" and stuff is never as important as people.
Someone asked me on this forum what ever became of the 480 Achilles and my friend whom I had initially sent the gun saw the post. He emailed me and said the second guy had never gotten it from him and it was still in his safe! He shipped it to me this last week.
And the second guy was relieved because he thought he had lost it.
One thing Africa taught me was that people are much more important than things. Things can be replaced. People cannot. Things are temporary. People are eternal.
Very interesting, glad your 2nd friend got some relief.

I would hate to ever think that I'd lost a gun. Cripes, if I get busy and leave the safe unlocked too long that drives me crazy.
I read a article about the Achilles recently. Link here
