LGS has one for $450. Seems high. Any reviews would help...
anything CZ makes is good. This little 380 locks up

tight as a bank vault. The quality is very good. It would be hard to beat it. The only downside is it is all steel and a bit heavier than a lot of other 380s. Offer him $400 and see what happens.

Prices on the really nice commercial guns with box really rose when CZ discontinued those. There have been a ton of them coming in from Israel that usually make fine shooter, though they often look like they served in Israel- the land of sand and constant carry.
The CZ-82s and CZ-83s I have shot have been extremely accurate and reliable. The only part I've ever had to replace on one (and it was a surplus one that obviously saw a lot of use) is the disconnector plunger. They will wear and then the gun becomes double action only. CZ still sells that part and they are cheap. Sometimes require a little fitting. Other times they drop right in.
I agree with Gary. Shoot him an offer.

To be clear, the VZ83 is a 9mm Makarov, not a 9mm Luger. It's a 9x18, not a 9x19.
Great little gun. Ditto that $450 seems a bit high unless it is LNIB.
9mm MAK is a good little round, hotter than .380

It is actually a .366 bullet not .355 like the Luger or .380. My old PA63 ran the 95 gr. pill out at close to 1100 fps. The PA, CZ, and Mak all have fixed frame mounted barrels that are pinned/pressed in place. I think it contributes to the accuracy. They are some of the most powerful "blow back" action pistols around. Astra had the M400 but it is a much larger military sidearm.
I have dies, bullet mould, boxer brass, (no sizer) for the 9mm Mak but have not gotten around to loading for it. Roman loves those Eastern Block rounds, ditto the 7.65X25 Tok.

The CZ83 family (.32 ACP, .380 ACP, and 9mmMak) are all steel guns, heavy for caliber, accurate, and durable. They look 'thick' like a Beretta M92 but the shorter cartridges make it very grip-able, even for folks with smaller hands like me. They have some sharp edges around the hammer and rear sight so make sure any IWB holster you might wear covers those. I believe the CZ83 and it's predecessor the CZ82 have chrome plated bores, which is nice if you have a case or three of old Soviet ammunition. 9mmMak is typically loaded hotter than .380 but the same magazine will work with either cartridge.

CZ typically marked the .380 CZ-83s as 9 Browning or 9 Browning Court - all the same thing. There are a handful of 9X18 CZ-83s out there, but one seldom sees them. If the OP's gun is one of those very elusive 9X18 CZ-83s, then the price is actually pretty good, assuming it is in nice condition.
