Loading 38-40 WCF this morning...
For these type cartridges, I prefer Lee Dies. The Powder Thru and Collet Crimp Dies put them over the top. These are loaded with 180 grn Berry's Hybrid HP Bullets...

I am a fan of the collet crimp die for the 32-20.

I wish you could get them for cases under 1.285"...
But, clearly understand. With thin cases like 218 Bee, 25-20, 32-20, 38-40, 44-40, etc.
It's the die that can't be made under 1.285"
So the shellholder doesn't matter. It's just the restrictions of the way the die is built.

I've only used the Lee 45-70 version, but
I have the die in my hand, and if someone wanted to buy a crimp die and shorten the body to accommodate the shorter cases? There is quite a bit of adjustment...
The way the interior is slit at 12, 3, 6 & 9 o'clock may be a problem, the slits ARE fairly deep.
We solved that problem years ago
with the 480 Achilles. Had to use the Lee crimp die for the heel bullets.
The cases are short and we needed a spacer to make up for the shortness.

Kelye at Belt Mountain made us a spacer and modified the Lee 45 70 die ... and it works great. I used it this last week.
