That it was reloaded with Black Powder and it fouled terribly. Also, that's the pedigree of the 32 Special. Supposedly, it handled Black Powder better.

The 30-30 WCF was the first smokeless powder sporting cartridge as far as I can tell. The event of stronger steel barrels made this possible. The 30-40 Krag preceded the 30-30 with smokeless powder, but was a military cartridge.

All of this from memory and not written in stone. But, I believe it's correct...
