For me. An upper level Mossberg Patriot, which is still quite affordable. Walnut Stock, Fluted Bolt, Adjustable Sights, Detachable Magazine and Recoil Pad. Also, has Mossberg's version of the Accutrigger that is very good.

Ordered some Hornady FTX Bullets because they are designed for lower velocities. I'll work up some reduced loads for more general use. Looking at around 2500 fps with a 200 grain. Helped a friend do this years ago and recoil was 30-06ish.

I do have a couple of hunts in mind where full throttle loads will be needed. An entry level gun, but seems very well made. Think it may be ideal for a few limited applications...

I had one in 308Win I practically gave away last Spring

You're right, very well made entry level b-a rifle with a better than average trigger. Strong action that should easily take factory-equal handloads.

Never thought I'd see the day when a loaded out bolt gun..

Would be half the price of a lever action. Things have certainly reversed in my gun career.

Gun companies are playing the odds, we'll see

ARs are at a low with such an over supply. Just not my style.

But, some of the other deals are really appealing. Some high grade guns at bargain prices. Seems like Ruger Americans and similar rifles have really brought prices down.

Like never before, new tech has made for better

and easier to afford, more shooters getting an upgrade. I'm not looking in that direction, more toward older with less recoil, playing with the 6x45mm at the moment, just a quick expansion of 223R brass with a new set of Hornady custom dies...then onto a 257 Raptor carbine.

Nice...

I was in Gary’s store the other day and walked out with a Howa 1500 in .308. Heavy barrel, Hogue stock. A budget rifle but I’m thoroughly impressed. Steel trigger guard etc, a nice 2 stage trigger and the matte bluing is well done. We’ll see how it shoots.

I have a fetish for the .338!

Owned several. Had a Ruger No. 1 that was heavy enough that with any load it was fun to shoot. My brother talked me out of that one and I can’t get it back! I have a Browning BAR and is also a joy to shoot but I sure lose a lot of brass!

Larry can you email me?
