I did some handgun hunting with. I hit deer just behind the shoulder with the half jacket rounds of the day and they fell but got up and ran. Nothing I could do kept them down for the count. After losing a couple of wounded deer I gave up on the gun and sold or traded it off.

About that time I was talking 3 or 4 times a week to Lee Jurras and in one conversation I was whining about losing the 2 wounded deer with my Python. He sent me a couple of boxes of his Super Vel 357 Mag ammo, 110 grain JHP. I had sold the Python and couldn't find another at the time for under $160. They retailed for $125 and I sure wasn't going to pay that exorbitant charge of $160. So I bought a S&W model 27, 6½" 357 for less than the Python's cost and tried Lee's ammo. I only shot 3 or 4 deer with it but every one was like a lightning strike on them. They never took a step. Unfortunately I was really getting into the Auto Mags about that time and the Model 27 went bye bye. But this did leave an impression on this young inexperienced Tennessee boy. The 357 Magnum would kill and kill quickly, BUT good ammo was necessary. Funny how things turn out. I sold the gun but kept the Super Vel ammo. Still have it.
