Reeder Custom Guns - I have always been a revolver man, so to speak.

The 44 magnum has always been my favorite round for a large bore revolver. Since I was old enough to shoot and carry a handgun I have used the good ole 44 magnum. Outside of that for medium and big game the most common revolver I use is some form of 22 rimfire.

Today after work I stopped by my local gun store I picked up a new Ruger SR1911 in 10mm.

I broke with tradition. For a while I have internally debated the merits of a 10mm autoloader. I thought about a Glock but they are kind of fat for a lack of a better term. I kind of like the idea of a 10mm revolver but something told me to get a 1911.

After traveling down to Florida, I evaluated my gun choices. It would be nice to have a gun that could do double duty. Self defense and use in the field.

So after going through the routine of paperwork I walked out the door with a brand new Ruger 10mm autoloader. In addition I have three boxes of 10mm ammo to try out on Saturday.

I'm looking forward to trying it out.

When I saw that the gun is capable of almost 1 inch groups that sold me. Col. Townsend Whelen once said that only accurate rifles are interesting. In this case, accurate handguns.

Next Monday is turkey season and my cousin invited me to hunt his farm. Sooooo. I do believe a scouting expedition is in order with the new 10 mm.

I bought some Czech made 10mm 170 grain FMJ and some Federal 180 Hydrashock ammo with the gun today.

I want to play with some of the lightweight HP's in the near future.

I guess that will be the impetus to redo my cellar and build my reloading section.

When I went to the Sunshine state with some friends I took four handguns. My Gary Reeder tuned SP 101 for self defense. My Gary Reeder redone Ruger Single Six for small game and snakes. My Dad's M29 which Gary rebuilt but did not use for anything and my lucky gun as Dad called it, the 4570 Contender whom Gary had reblued, engraved with a moose and put in a port too lessen the hand slamming.

I wanted a gun that could be used for field use and self defense along with the main hunting gun.

Mr. Taffin's article sold me on it. The accuracy and the reliability were the paramount features of the gun.

I can see myself this fall hunting deer and black bear with the Ruger 10 as a side arm. Seriously I have been thinking of a NH black bear hunt and since you get a deer tag with it, go for deer in the month of November with muzzleloader and gun if you do not tag one with the muzzle loader.

I hate to say it but Mom ended up in the hospital 3x in the past two to three weeks. I am not sure if I can go on trips that are more than a day drive with Mom's health issues. You have no idea how worried I was when Mom was in the hospital and I was in New Smyrna Beach FLA.

I did but it seems the Ruger is more accurate
