huge Cape Buffalo in some heavy brush. One was a monster so they decided to try a stalk. As they got up to within about 100 yards, 2 big Rhino bulls came out of the brush at them. John Abraham, the PH told them to stand real still as the Rhino's eyesight is really bad. When the Rhinos turned their heads to try to spot the danger John told them to ease slowly behind a large bush, which they did. The Rhinos gave up on them after a bit and walked off and they continued the stalk on the Buffalo. As they got within about 50 yards of the Buffalo, John told Colleen to take the largest one of the 3. Years ago I taught Colleen to shoot offhand and this training came in handy. Standing offhand she took the first shot with her 458 at about 50 yards hitting just above the point of shoulder. The Buffalo staggered but was still on his feet. John told her to hit him again, point of shoulder. She did and the Hornady 350 grain JSP .458 bullet broke the shoulder bone, blowing up the upper lungs in the process. The Buffalo dropped at the shot. The other 2 Buffalo walked off. Keeping an eye on the other 2 big boys they eased up on the downed buffalo. He was trying to raise his head so Colleen put one more in him to end it all.

John can't officially score it until after 60 days but he should give us a tentative score in a couple of days. My Cape Buffalo from last year scored in at the #1 free range Cape Buffalo, handgun, and #2 overall. Tentative measurement shows that Colleen's buffalo will beat mine by a sizable margin. But we won't know by how much for a few days. Either way, it is a monster buffalo.
