Reeder Custom Guns - Is 22lr ammo less reliable today?

I've noticed that I get a fair number of misfires with new ammo . It seems that in the past,when I was a teen, 22lr seemed to be more reliable. I am not the only one who has been noticing this. Some of my shooting friends have noticed that they see one to two rounds out of 100 to 200 have some kind of malfunction. Again,in the past,it almost never happened. Thanks for any replies.

One of the techs/gunsmith mentioned QC during priming was poor in certain makes and was leaving gaps that could result in misfires/hangfires.

My $.02: True? I don't know, sounds feasible. QC has been a problem in critical steps in production in a lot of things... Still, a lot of variables to consider. I shoot Remington, Federal, CCI, Winchester, whatever is cheapest, for plinking. CCI has never caused a problem. Remington and Federal yes, I've had some misfires. Winchester I bought online and haven't tried yet.

I engaged in some libation with my fellow club members.

They more or less agreed that something was amiss. My friend Gordon commented that with match grade or high end ammo it was not an issue. He has a target grade 22 lr auto loader and shoots stuff like Norma through it. Never an issue.

Now. When it comes to the Walmart off the shelf, now it goes down hill. We seem to be in agreement that there is a failure of 1 or 2 per 100 rounds. As a teen, about thirty years past, we would get a failure at around 5000 or so. Now it is much greater.

I'VE ONLY BEEN SHOOTIN' 'EM EXTENSIVELY SINCE 1956. THE PROBLEM S NOT PRIMING COMPOUND ALL AROUND THE RIM. MATCH AMMO IS SUPPOSED TO PREVENT THIS AND AQUILLA CLAIMS THIS IS THE WAY THEY PRIME. I'VE NEVER HAD AN AQUILLA NOT FIRE. I USED CCI FOR BULLSEYE AND IT HAPPENED QUITE A BIT. ALSO WITH AMERICAN EAGLE AND REMINGTON GOLDEN BULLETS.

and i doubt he has ever fired more than 125,000 rounds of 22 LR in his life. A real novice.

These days you get what you pay for. Most good gun shops don't carry that cheap crap. When you buy cheap shit you get your money's worth.
