Reliving hunts, remembering stalks, shots taken

as I enjoy my Africa mounts. My all-time favorite was a Limpopo Bushbuck taken in 2004, great area, I'm sure Gary and Charlie Herf remember. Elephants, Hippos, Brown Cobras on a maize and orange farm just south of the Limpopo River in northern RSA. Everybody was tense, PH, Zulu trackers, even the damn driver. Very dark, heavy brush, lots of 12' high elephant grass, dry washes, etc. Jumped an elephant, mid-size cow about 20' away and had a 98.35% pucker factor for most of the hunt. Happy ending though, 1-shot through both shoulders from about 45 yds. in dark thick brush. They searched for 10-15mins and found him 30' away under some ground cover that looked like tall May Apples. Skinned him at the farmhouse nearby, no heart or lungs. The 350gr. 45-70 bullet did it's job and left the scene.

Next was in June 2017 with the wife along. 110 yd. shot offhand through a window in the brush with the 41GNR#2 carbine on a real nice Impala, looking at the shoulder mount above me as I write. Great stalk, and lucky shot, all I could see was the shoulder in a loaf-of-bread size break in a "Get You" bush. He dropped where he stood.

Then there was that big Gemsbok bull that stepped out onto the dirt road at dusk on the same hunt...
