Gary ~ have you ever heard about any special barrel manufacturing process with the M29 early models? Something about a micro-honing process that would leave the barrels more accurate than later -numbers??
Like what would be done to “polish” the barrels??
all kinds of gimmicks have come out thru the years

that claim to turn a standard magnum revolver into a target gun. Most have been just that..gimmicks. That process you are talking about, if it is what I remember was just wet lapping the barrel to supposedly take the rough edges out of the lands and grooves. That is the limit of my knowledge on that. After a while it died out so it must have been just another gimmick.
I remember a few decades ago when

Barrel lapping was all the rage. I had a Weatherby MK V 30-06 i took to the range right out of the box. Installed the base, rings and 4X Redfield Widefield scope at the range. Removed the bolt to half ass bore sight it by eye. All the pundits advising me to "lap the bore, lap the bore before you really dight it in". Told them I'd just shoot it. Took about 8 shots to get it zeroed. First 100 yard group off sand bags was 3/4" with factory ammo. The guys with lapped Sakos and Winchesters with high end German glass weren't shooting any better with their custom ammo. There's always a gimmick being pushed.
$.02: More barrels ruined by "lapping", wet or dry.

Shoot it and run a bore snake through it occasionally with a wee bit of cleaner/lube on the snake.
Exactly what I do and before bore

Snakes used a rod, brush and patches. I figured shooting 40 or 50 rounds through a barrel was the best way to break one in anyway. I haven't seen but one gun that wasn't already more accurate than me out of the box.
people that build barrels for a living laugh when you

mention breaking one in. Run a box of ammo thru it if you feel the need. Other than that just take it out and enjoy it.
just make sure and run a dry swab thru the bore

and get all the lube or moisture out. It will ruin your accuracy if you don't.
