the latest on Allison Herf from Charlie
Hello, I wanted to write you a short update on Allie, we've been here about 3 weeks now, she had her ileostomy "taken down" on Tuesday, May 14th and at the last minute while she was literally waiting to be taken in to O.R. for the ileostomy repair, Dr. Ramamoorthy her colorectal surgeon finally stopped in after Allie had been waiting for 4 hours in pre- op to tell her that she had called Dr. Clary to come over and explain what the Tumor Board had decided that previous Monday when they had met re. her PET scan... there was an area in the lymph nodearea of her liver that had "lit up" and he suggested he go in and remove whatever he thought may become a problem down the line...so, in very quick time, it went from a surgery lasting 1& 1/2 hours to a 6 hour surgery... the VERY GOOD news from pathology a few days later was that the lymph node tissue that Dr. Clary has removed proved to be negative for any cancer !!! so, Allie has another long recovery from that part of the surgery as Dr. Clary went in through the same incision he had used previously that had barely healed, and they forgot that she had an allergic reaction to the glue he uses to close the incision , so she had a terrible red rash but after several tries has a rash creme that appears to be working....she will have a scan in about 3 weeks and , hopefully, it will be negative for any cancer and then she will have scans every 3 months... this has been a horrendous past 19 months but we are grateful for her wonderful surgeons and oncologists and the radiologist and so many of the caring nursing staff and Allison's pure grit and determination to beat this stage 4 diagnosis and forge through ALL that it has taken for her to survive her own pain and suffering !!! she is our TRUE HEROINE and while she has several months of recovery ahead, she is looking forward to rebuilding her "new" life and looking for ways in which she can re-enter the work force in her area of interior design... we know this will take several months as she regains her strength and can begin to have more to focus on than just the next week's list of Dr. appts and treatments.. thank YOU so very much for your kind prayers , generous donations, and constant uplifting of our family through your many many encouraging words and remarks !!! Alliison will update her "gofundmeallisonherf.com" site soon. You will get her story in her own words. which is always better than anything i'm able to convey.
