We met Harry and Lou at the Port Elizabeth airport on May 1 and took advantage of the three hour drive to get to know each other and get excited for the upcoming ten days we would spend together.

Since neither of the two guys had ever been to Africa they had no idea what to expect and were both blown away by the amount of game they encountered on a daily basis.

Hunting in the mountains always has its challenges and truly test even the seasoned Hunter. The guys had to climb, crawl and at the end of that take long shots...which both men did with determination and superb execution. There was always a word of encouragement, a shoulder to lean on... and working as a team success was the order of the day.

It was truly a humbling experience to witness and spend time with these two great men and more humbling to think of how many people, that had never even met these guys, got together to contribute to this hunt so that these two men could have a trip of a lifetime. Gratitude is all we can express!

Africa has a way of lifting the 'broken' spirit in a way that is hard to explain. It was evident in the raising crows feet in the corner of their eyes as a shy smile appeared on weathered faces and a renewed sparkle in the eye that had faded from years of doing what was asked of them.

Both Harry and Lou showed that whatever life throws at you can be conquered with determination and support. Both these men have sacrificed so much for their Team and for ten days in Africa they were part of a Team again... and that is worth a million words.

Thank you again to each one of you who so generously contributed to this effort in so many ways. Together we showed these brave men we care and gave them a trip of a lifetime.

To Harry(Navy) and Lou(Army)... we salute you!

way down on the eastern Cape. We were there a few years back and damn near froze. It is windy like Wyoming and very cold there too. Anytime you see the trackers in heavy coats you know it is cold. The shots are extremely long and just getting within shooting range is hard. Puffy and I were there along with several other Misfits and it was one of the hardest hunts and longest shots I have ever had to take.

That is a great Vaal Rhebok one of them shot too. Congrats to the 2 wounded warriors and thanks to whomever donated that hunt.

edge of the Drakensburg Mountains.It is mainly heavy brush and scrub brush with low hills leading up to the mountains. The shots can be long or short. I enjoyed that area quite a bit. We were actually in an area called Mkuzi, which is in the Natal.

Yogi, Phyllis' and my PH in June 2017, was raised there and we had planned to hunt there in 2018 with him as our PH, His father has a game farm there, but family in OH got in the way, just the usual BS.

Looks like a great area, like you said short, long, and in between shots. Maybe some day...

at the time. Yogi is no longer with john. He sorta stabbed John in the back booking clients and not showing up for safaris that John had him booked for. So he no longer works for John.
Here is John, these days..I was feeling rough one day and rather than go out with one of the hunters John stayed in camp with me. We just sat and talked much of the day. We talked about guns, African animals, and earlier safaris like a couple of old men..just John, me and the jack Russells that stayed right by my feet all day like they knew I wasn't feeling well. Shortly after lunch we got in John's Land Cruiser and just rode around and talked for a couple of hours, just relaxing.

Great you two had some time together, lots of good memories between friends. And those wonderful Jacks were icing on the cake. Sorry to hear about Yogi, we all make our choices. As it is, the wife and I made the right hard choice not to go in 2018. Time will tell...

The Baviian hunt was a very special hunt as we got to try 3 different types of terrain. John asked us if any of us wanted to go over to the east coast of the lower Cape right on the ocean for a few days and try some unusual animals. Puffy and i jumped at the chance. The area was very dense, almost like a jungle. The brush was very thick and the shots were close and quick. We also got to hunt at night for Cape Grysbok. We hunted Caracal, the African Lynx, along with Cape Grysbok, Bushbok and we hunted the Blue Duiker, a little critter the size of a large rat but never had any luck with it. These pics are from that area on the east Cape about a half mile from the ocean..the little Cape Grysbok looks small but they were actually monsters of the species and mine and Puffs ranked in the top 3 in the record book.

The Caracals were hunted with dogs as the brush was as thick as a jungle. But Puff and I both took very good Caracals.Both record book animals.

We spent 3 days there and then drove over to the western edge of the eastern Cape where the shots really let us know how good we were with our handguns. The ranges were extremely long as some of these pics show. A 250 yard shot with a handgun is not the easiest shot in the world, especially when you are sitting on the side of a steep hill with no rest. The first week was in Baviian and the pics showing the long rolling hills were Baviian and then we traveled up to Rooiport on the edge of the Kalahari Desert for the second week. [image]
