the post below opened up a can of worms, so to speak

So I tend to like lever actions and single shots. I really like my G2 with various barrels by Gary. On the recent Africa tri, I took 5 animals with my 8mm gnr out to 300 yards and a Cape Buffalo with my Marlin 45/70.

It would probably be a Howa 30-06 with walnut stock.

Easy to maintain and 30/30 is readily available. Could probable take any game in North America with proper placement.

My son votes for the SCAR 17S while my dream rifle has always been the Winchester 9422M usually with a 4x scope.

I’ve become pretty partial to CZ and Tikka/Sako. Stock and Right out of the box, no adjustments needed.

I’m down to 3 Ruger 77s, tang safety but all are rebarrelled, restocked and have Timney triggers. My #1s are also stock. Never a fan of winchester or weatherby. My rem 700s are also tweeked with bedding and triggers.

If I had to replace my collection I’d buy Tikkas or Sakos.

With my Winchester 94 30-30, but, as an all around rifle I would have to lean towards a good bolt action in 270, 30-06, 308 or one of the 308 siblings. I lean towards the Savage 110 or Remington 700, but any good bolt gun would work.

On the latest Africa hunt, except for Nancy's Cape Buffalo, we took turns with her 300 Win Mag from Springbok to Eland. Plus it does an excelent job on our local elk.

in 300 WM, I’d nominate a Savage in 30-06 for North America... Africa a 300 WM (if a bolt gun). Savage says nothing about MOA guarantee but it shoots MOA or better with factory low cost ammo. Bolt faces are replaceable without the need for a new bolt. Savage drop-in barrels are very common. Stock accutrigger is acceptable.

Second runner-up is the sleeper deal, Howa 1500 in 308, 30-06 or 300 WM.
