your question of the day

A few weeks back I mentioned that now that I had my Cape Buffalo the only thing left on my bucket list was an elephant. Since then I have had several people ask me what cartridge I would use on an elephant. Well, first off it would have to be one of our GNR cartridges. I wouldn't feel right doing it with another cartridge. So, my question to you, and this is a serious question, what GNR cartridge and bullet would you go with if you had a chance at elephant with a handgun?

Same setup used for your buff, but 500 solid

I did it with the .275 Rigby. Why not use the 277GNR?

I will take that under consideration

close range, 30-40 yds...your favorite 510GNR SA would be a thought for a side head shot, as you are a high % 1-shot hunter, would be great hunt.

Yeah, here's the best choice...

Leaning more towards the new 470 on the 500 Linebaugh case. It's like a little 470 N.E. for revolvers.

A Howdah Revolver would be ideal. Wouldn't Lee love that?

Bravo!

Bullets would have a large choice of .458 bullets that are suited for elephant. For an encore it would be the 416GNR or the 450GNR and bullet selection again lots of proven choices.

Probably a dopey answer, but I would

use a .378 GNR with the 300 or 350 grain woodleigh solids and as much powder as can safely be stuffed under them.

I already have my Bill Firman replica .416 GNR

It's a pretty easy choice. I even have a couple boxes of tungsten core Speer 400 gr. bullets. Loaded with H322 and a Fed. #215 cap I'm there.

The .450 and .476 would certainly do too, I have them also. The .440 GNR would be most interesting as there are no "real" rifle bullets in .430 bore. Some .435" Westly Richards bullets might be modified for a very unique experience. Maybe some custom "Punch" bullets?

yeah, the 416 GNR, 450 GNR or 476 GNR would

be my choice. Also I hope you can outrun an elephant.

I wonder how much extra would a pink elephant be?
