Marlin 1894 CL in the 32-20 Flavor. Very slick action and came with an ole K-4 Weaver. I have two of those and a K-6 now and they all work great.

Very useful too. With good handloads it's basically a rimmed 30 Carbine.

I have to agree with the above posts about a revolver. If you're going with a factory revokver, the Uberti P is hard to beat. A Ruger Buckeye would be another great choice. If you're going custom, a Reeder Trail Gun would be my choice.
