Reeder Custom Guns - Old Model Bearcat and Ruger Customer service

Bought this 1965 vintage Bearcat from a friend. Sent it to Ruger for the transfer bar conversion. It arrived yesterday and they called me today and said there was excessive end shake in the cylinder and they'd send me a new gun, either blue or stainless rather than repair, and the old gun would be destroyed. I took them up on the offer of a new blued gun and asked them to return the 'brass' anodized trigger guard as I'd like to put that on the new gun.

Gary would have probably made that like new ! Someone at Ruger got an awesome gun.

Old model parts are different from new, cylinders aren't the same. I can't transfer the trigger guard from old to new. This is too bad as I bought it from a friend who's had a couple of strokes and is selling off his guns. Would have liked to have kept this old timer.

if Ruger can't fix it they will not send it back. Due to liability they can't afford to have a problem gun back in the owner's hands.Just like our guns for instance. If I get a gun back in where the customer has afro engineered it himself and it doesn't work, I will fix it at no charge. Simple common sense. I can't afford to have one of our guns out there with a problem where someone might get hurt. Plus it doesn't look good for us either if a guy is at the range and the gun won't work, it makes us look like beginners.

And I doubt very seriously anyone at Ruger ended up with that gun. A worn out Bearcat isn't the most desirable handgun to take home, especially if it has problems. Unless that gun was serial number 1, it had no collector value.
