Gary - or anyone - what's the opinion of the mini14?

I see where Noodle has his for sale below. I have had mine for 15-20 years and I don't shoot it much. I have thought about turning it into a short-range coyote calling gun, and maybe in 6x45. Or am I fighting a losing battle with the platform?

I like it and have never had any issues. It is basically an enlarged .30 M1 in design. I'm still dumbfounded about that widely advertised .308 version that never was. But then again I remember the Redhawk that was advertised and in magazines for about 2 yrs. before I ever saw one. It was worth the wait.
The older ones were notoriously inaccurate...

I tried several in 223 and 7.62x39 and 4-7" groups were the norm. Ruger then reworked the internals and made them much more accurate. Agree with WB on 1.5" at 100 yards.
Bought the new models in 223 and the other cartridge which must not be mentioned. I'd buy one in 350 Legend if they were to start making it.
I have to disagree with that. I had one of the 180 series,

the first ones and there was no way to mount a scope at the time but it would shoot 1½" groups at 50 with the crude open sights. When the 181 series came out with scope options I went with it and it was as accurate as the older one, even more so with a scope. It was a truck gun for ground hogs.
I was never so lucky. But, really like the ones I have now..

None were even 4” at 50 except for the one I have now which is a newer model and is at least 1 1/2” at 100. I have an accuracy system gas block and strut.... Took it off.. didn't make much difference.
By the way...I’d love one in 458socom!

Of course that ol skinny barrel got hot real quick, and would start to string em. I always wanted one of the original Accuracy International (I believe). Was a one man shop and he would build full bull barrel minis, several calibers, anything based on 223 or 7.62x39.

Hardly ever shot it. Accuracy was mediocre at best. You can buy two good AR’s for the cost of a Mini 14. Some people love them, just not my cup of tea.

in 308 but one of Ruger's techs told me the 308 in the smaller frame was showing some small cracks so they dropped the idea. Second or third hand info so take it with a grain of salt.

Had one for years, not quite a tack driver but highly effective. It was a law enforcement issue rifle and it never failed me. Can't say anything bad about them....
