and a lot of folks suggested Marlin or Browning. What about the Winchester 9422? Thanks!

Excellent guns. Gary has the finest one I've ever seen...

a Marlin or Browning.

Mostly on the net Winchester lever .22's bring a premium.

Do some research, you might be passing up bargains. I have a browning and it is a slick little gun but lacks the charm, to me, compared to a Marlin 39 or even a 9422 Winny. The Browning basically has a gear driven bolt. Efficient but non-traditional. But it carries like a BB gun and shoots great, mine is a Grade II. Traded a Rem. 870 and about $50 for it new when I was in High School and gave it to my future wife.

Not inexpensive, but a great little 22.

Marlin 39as and have never had one single problem with either. I also have the Winchester 9422M in 22 Magnum that is super slick. In all the years we have been in business I don't remember getting the 39A or the 9422 in for repairs. I can't say that about the Browning or Henry. Lots of problems with the Henry.

Stick with the Marlin 39A's, Winchester '94 or Browning BL-22 for 22.
The Winchester or Marlin Levermatic for the Magnum. The Marlin 1894M sometimes has issues from feeding to accuracy.
