I was testing it last night off the bench. NEVER rest your elbows on a table or bench with a heavy kicker. That is self regulating. I had a thin pad under my elbows but found instantly it was not near enough. It hurt all night and my shooting was all flinchy after that.
I sourced a very thick pad but it was too late.
My 4895 powder and the 405 gr. JSP bullet is showing about 30 fps per powder grain increases in speed at this particular level. Pressures are fine and I could easily go up. It seems very progressive and no sudden surprises yet. 60 grs. garners 1600 fps and this is my current limit, possibly beyond it. The whack on my bony elbow was 35 ft. lbs. at about 20 fps. For only a 10% increase in fpe and TKO I think a more sedate 1500 fps and 57 grs. charge will do just as well for anything I can predict. If I wanted to go maybe 3-5 grs. more to whatever max capacity is, I think maybe 1750-1850 fps would be topped out. That's correlating to published .458 Winchester ballistics from my 13" rifled barrel length. That's plenty, thank you!
