who wanted to be the first to engage the enemy. If he had not been in a hurry he could have had 4 Gatling guns with him that could possibly have changed the outcome. Plus he wanted to be the first with a new cartridge and rifle which failed them miserably. The soldiers had to pry the empty brass out of the chambers on many of the rifles. Beside many of the soldier's bodies was found a pocket knife with a broken blade. Custer got what he deserved but it is a shame his men had to be included in it too.
