Any real advantage to a Commander vs a Full size 45?

I mean, other than clearing a holster a nano-second faster, does a Commander (steel) give up anything to a full size? I am never going to be such a good shot that a 1/4" barrel is that much more of a sight advantage with a full size. Appreciate the thoughts. Am thinking of picking up another STEEL 45 1911. I am done with polymer.

commander is a slight bit lighter and a bit shorter in the nose. That is about it.
To me there is huge difference in the feel

for only about 1/2" difference in length, it's crazy. I once had a custom alloy framed 5" Govt. model to combine both worlds. That was nice.
I've always wanted an alloy framed commander in .38 Super. Sounds cool. Factory done guns like that are very expensive. It's probably cheaper to get Gary to build you one on a Rock chassis. Better than mass produced for sure.

26 OUNCES, 4-1/4". COMMANDERS ARE ALLOY FRAMED; COMBAT COMMANDERS ARE STEEL BUT THE DIFFERENCE HAS BECOME BLURRED OVER THE DECADES SINCE THE 1950s. BARREL LENGTH DIFFERENCE IS 3/4". HOW MUCH DIFFERENCE LENGTH AND WEIGHT MAKES IS STRICTLY PERSONAL.
I think my lightweight Govt. custom was 30-32 oz?

About half a pound lighter and seemed to be the best of both worlds. However the Auto Ord. cast aluminum frames we were using back then tended to crack at the safety pin hole, with some heavy use. I bet they have it all figured out today.

of them. To me the difference in the feel in the hand is what makes a difference. Having carried the Star PD for 40 years my hand feels perfect with that in it. Yet having hunted with and shot in combat shooting with a longslide for almost 40 years, I feel just as comfortable with it. I don't notice a difference in the weight at all even though I know it is there. If I pull a gun my mind is on why I pulled it, not whether it feels heavier or bulkier than another of my 45s. A person that shoots a lot won't notice the difference. I would bet when John Taffin picks up a 45 whether it be a lightweight commander or full size steel frame Gvt model he doesn't think of the difference. To me all 1911s feel the same in my hand. Your mileage may differ. Mox nix.

SW PC Shield - 3.3" barrel- 949 fps
Ruger Comm - 4 1/4" barrel- 1075 fps
Para Ord- 5" barrel - 1144 fps
**Load 230gr RN -Powder AA7- 9.5 gr
SW PC Shield - 3.3" barrel- 779 fps
Ruger- 4 1/4" barrel - 877 fps
Para Ord- 5" barrel - 947 fps

it really peps up the 10mm and is close to Longshot in performance. Very fine and a bit dusty to dispense it, meters well too.
