Died in 1984 I remember. I think he had a stroke shortly after "Hell I was There" came out. I was working at the Grocery store in college when I ordered it. Years before the internet. Had to use a stamp and envelope, write a letter of request, it was horrible! lol

Sad way for an adventurous man to go. I heard he was opinionated and a bit of an asshole if you didn't agree with him. Can you believe that?! lol Chaffed some folks sensitive feelings! But then again, he was born two centuries ago, I give him a pass.
