Reeder Custom Guns - How many is enough? Does it really matter?

I found a little auto I like, powerful, thin, great trigger and sights, very small, holds 6+1. In the past I have regularly carried a 5-shot revolver with an extra HKS speed-loader full of rounds in another pocket. Seldom do I travel in harm's way, knowingly. Blissfully I wander looking very harmless but with the knowledge that I am indeed armed.

There is a movement to have micro-9's that carry 10+1. A modern marvel in engineering design and manufacturing. But not quite as small, or thin, but very close. Consider the Glock 43x, 48, and SIG's 365.

I also have an ancient little .32 Auto made in the 1920's. At the time way ahead of it's competition, alas only a 5-shot mag. The same as many small revolvers of the time in the same power class. Almost exactly the same size today, but heavier, than my current pocket .380 7-shooter.

At what point is there a mental comfort issue?

"gunfight" lasts about 5 seconds and an average of 3 rounds are fired. So I really see no benefit at all in carrying a carry gun that holds over 8 or 9 rounds. My PD holds 6 and I carry an extra mag in a knife sheath on my left hip. I know john Taffin usually carries at least 2 guns and probably 3 at times and I would bet all 3 don't hold more than 10 or 12 rounds total.

It wasn't many years ago that the selling point on handguns was the large amount of rounds they carried. S&W probably started all that with their model 59 way back that carried 15 rounds or so. After that gun after gun carried more and more rounds with a couple of them holding almost 20 rounds. The chances of you getting into a prolonged gun battle where you need 20 rounds are pretty slim.

If I were starting all over again and were looking for a carry gun, I would think seriously about the Glock 43X or the Glock 48. The 48 is probably the finest carry gun ever made and I can't think of another gun on the market that will beat it for ease of carry, lightweight and reliability. Just my personal opinion. Your mileage may vary.

never know when its going to be your day to face down some idiot with pistol or rifle and a backpack of loaded magazines or a situation where there is more than one assailant. It's happened plenty enough times and I want to be prepared if it happens to be my day. In warmer months I also carry an LCP in my front pocket.

a 43 with a pierce +1 grip extender. I like the added grip area and the +1 is, well a plus. I’ve shot 250 rounds through the 43 so far with the +1 and it’s never hiccuped. I did grind the hook straight on the pierce so it feels like the factory extension....and they come 2 to a package. Can’t invest in an other carry just yet but I cant find much to complain about in the Glock. I primarily use a Ruger LCPII for a pocket and the SW BG as a backup to that one.

Truth be told, my primary carry these days is SW Shield in 45acp with a thumb safety. I like it very much!
