Spent some time on the range today
shooting my Model 94 Trapper. My standard load is the Speer Hot-Cor 130 gr. FP. I have taken deer with it and it works well. I decided to try some of the Hornady FTX bullets .. 135 gr. "spitzer" with a plastic nose so you can use them in tube magazines.
After shooting a bunch of them at ranges from 50 yards to 130 yards I will stick with the Speer bullet. Just my personal preference.
Chronograph results showed the Hornaday bullet running 2200 + fps from the 16" barrel. The Speer bullet averaged a bit over 2400 fps.
Offhand accuracy on rocks at 130 yards I could tell no difference.
