This is right from the ATF...

ATF now requires FFLs to conduct NICS background checks on all over the counter firearm transactions in the state of Alabama. Prior to today’s announcement, an Alabama Concealed Carry Permit (CCP) issued on or after August 1. 2013 qualified as an alternative to a NICS check under the provisions of the Brady Act of 1998.That is no longer valid for the state of Alabama.

My lovely state did that about 10 years ago.

as we speak! It appears that some of Sheriffs have not been doing a complete NICS background check. The AG is working with the head of ATF to get this fixed asap. In the meantime, it is NICS as usual.

Issued by the County Sheriff and each County has their own system. Most don't even use a photo on the permit nor require any weapon experience or training. Not even sure what kind of background checks they perform!

I think the issue is that NICS checks aren't....

there is never any wait or NICs check or anything. You fill out the 4473 and walk out, one gun or 20, it's all the same.

Same here in NC

When I got mine, the Sherriff just leaned out of his office said "I've never arrested you" then went back to work.
