Shot a friend's in 30-06 today. Of course now I may need one. No clue what chambering I would want. . .

I've never met one I didn't like. My battery has them...

From 218 Bee to 475 Linebaugh. The 218 Bee has killed thousands of furry little critters.

My favorites are that Bee, 7.62x39 and 30-30...

450-400NE and 470NE

Have had several others over the years but these 3 are probably staying. The .300 is heavy enough that recoil is not a problem. Had a .338 that was a nice accurate rifle and am trying to get it back from my brother.... a 416Rigby and a .375H&H that an onlooker at the range decided he wanted to buy when I had them both out there. To much for me so sold em on the spot.

How salty was the recoil in the 375?

5 rounds out of each that day was enough to sell!

My favorite model is the No.1-A, the 7x57 is a great

but any caliber I'd find a use for it. Once I bought a custom 1-A that was originally a .243. Someone spent a boatload of money getting it re-bored to .257 cal. and chambered in .257 Weatherby Mag. Akin to taking a 7mm Rem. Mag. and necking it to .25 cal. but even beyond that a little. It was a lightweight terror, but recoil was not bad and shot flat.

The re-bore was done by a true master in the N.W. somewhere. A couple dealers at a show made me quote them a cash price and they asked to take it to their table where they had a bore microscope. The rifle never came back, it was replaced with a stack of $100 bills!

Not many folks, even now, are excited about rebarreling Ruger No.1's. Gary is an exception. They are all pretty.

I bought the #1A in 7.62x39 for a base gun...

It was a clearance item at about 50% off MSRP. But, I made the mistake of shooting it.

It shoots all bullets .308-.312" into sub 1" groups. Even the 32 Caliber XTP Bullets pushed by 10.0 grn of Unique. This load mimics the old 32-20 perfectly.

I'm using Hodgdon Black to push the 123 grn SSTs to crazy velocities.

7x57 get the nod.

Have more than 30. My favorite are this 25-06 customer, 30-06 1B converted to 300 H&H.and my 30-06 Rsi with canary trigger. Many other nice ones and cool calibers but this is the nicest.[image][image][image][image][image][image]

Had a couple technical difficulties above

My favorite my 30-06, with the iron sights. It has been used for elk and deer over the years but it is just a beauty. Second to that is my stainless .375 H&H in the Tropical model. There are others but I am still looking for a #1 in .308 with the shorter barrel and iron sights.

We have 4, 7MAG, 22-250, 45-70 & 375H&H

With one of Gary's muzzle brakes the 375 H&H is easy shooting. Nancy used it for her Cape Buffalo on the April hunt
