1911 Guide Rod Question

Any advantage to having a full length guide rod like the Kimbers I have seen vs a spring and barrel bushing like my Ruger SR1911 has? Hope my terminology and description is correct, I'm not much of a 1911 guru (yet), still trying to learn.

help tighten it up. Other than that I don't like them. They are the solution to a problem that doesn't exist.

On your 1911 and the full length guide rod has a flat base, than you can pull the slide stop out and the slide and guide rod with all stay in place with the slide and, barrel. So you’re just swapping slide completely assembled. 45 for 22. Not a big difference but kind of cool. The only other reason is if you are shooting a hot rod, a +p+, or cor-bon or super, and want a spring buffer to protect the frame from the pounding. No free lunch, you go in powder there is more and faster wear and tear.
