Reeder Custom Guns - Vacationing in Arizona

Good afternoon everyone. I am a long time reader of this forum and occasionally ask a question here and there and wanted to ask y'all what your input is on a vacation question. Yes I know that this is a gun forum but also know that Gary and a few other misfits live in the Southwest US so I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. My girlfriend and I are going to a wedding at the end of October in the Phoenix area and we were thinking about taking a few extra days off of work and making it a longer vacation since neither of us have seen the southwest area. No real plans yet but we were at least thinking about renting a car and heading to the Grand Canyon and stopping in and seeing Gary and his shop along the way. What are some of the other things or places that are worth a visit out in that area?

You have a good plan. Flagstaff is on the way to the Grand canyon. Sedona is a good overnight on the way back. Lots to do in Phoenix area and late October is ideal weather. Glad to provide more suggestions depending on how much time you have.

on a Friday and the wedding was on a Saturday. Was going to take at least Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday off. Maybe longer depending on what all we are wanting to see

towns on the way to the Grand Canyon. Personally I would recommend staying out of Phoenix unless you like an extremely crowded bumper to bumper gridlock with temps still in the upper 90s. 4 million people with their share of gang bangers pretty much describes Phoenix. . Sedona will be nice in October. Flag may have some snow on the ground in late October but it never lasts long.

gang capital of the southwest. My family lives there and I hate even going to visit them. It takes me well over an hour to get from one end of town to the other and that is with no traffic to speak of. Like Gary said, bumper to bumper gridlock during drive time. No place to be on vacation.

Sunday would be a good day to see the Phoenix-Scottsdale area. Depending on interests I can make some suggestions as there is a lot. That would enable you to drive to Flagstaff and see Gary on Monday. Depending on how early you could still make the Grand Canyon that evening as sunset and sun rise are beautiful. While I said "never" to Grand Canyon bus tours you cannot drive there anymore. We have done it twice with gandkids and once without. Drivers train for years and you really learn more than you ever get from brochures and being on your own. El Tovar Lodge is a must see and Grand Canyon elk feed early in the AM all over. Sedona has an architectural jeep tour staffed with graduate students or professor where you really learn about the area instead of the gimmick tours. A night either or both places would be great. Reservations for all would be a good idea.
