Not sure what happened to mine. It has disappeared. I don’t go into the woods without one even though I rarely need it where I prowl around.

But if I was buying, it would have the largest face possible. After navigating through the woods of Texas and the pine barrens of NJ< I liked at large compass

Get a quality Lensatic with Tritium (Cammenga is one company), yes heavy, but if you are doing actual map work and real orienteering the old fashioned way you'll want more than a small Silva or Suunto.
If using as a Back Up to electronics (GPS, ONX) the Silva Suunto are great... If using for real with a map and no back up. I want to be able to shoot a good azimuth and be most accurate. The weight size is well worth it.

Mine is a model 3H, NSN6605-01-196-6971. It has stood up for more years than I care to consider! I have a lightweight Silva for a backup. The compass is only as good as the wielder so be sure you have good maps to go with it.
