I've already seen another run on AR and other stuff

for personal defense, like CCW hot models. A bit more subtle but stuff selling out and prices up a little. Luckily there is such a glut of ammo jobbers and retailers are using this as a opportunity to level things out and not gig on prices. Some good deals out there to get supplies back to norm. I saw one special a vendor had been running for a long time; buy a tactical case and (10) mags for $100. After last weekend they dropped it to (7) mags for the same price special. Tricky-tricky.

I was kicking around the idea of building a fun and pleasant AR platform rig. My first encounter of "non-mil" spec parts. Back in the day everything was "mil-spec." because that was what started the black gun industry. They were sub-contractors supplying parts and sold over-runs to sport shooters. I did lots of business as a FFL with "Pac West Arms", built many a AR when the Mini-14 was the only competitor in the field.

I waited one weekend too long to get some 9mm upper parts and now the specific things I personally wanted are gone! I ordered a complete lower to rob some parts off and fix a friend's rig with a new slider stock and pistol grip. Well the slider won't fit on the old buffer tube. One is "mil-spec" the other is "Commercial"? I checked with calipers and the old buffer tube is 0.003" too big one way and 0.004" the other. Cripes! What goober does that?! Smaller = less materials and should be cheaper price. Why have two different specs?! It really pisses me off. Now I have to change complete assemblies. So FWIW, be aware.

the 9mm Luger AR sounds fun and cheap. Roman, constantly savoring the uber exotic, is shrilling for a 9x39mm. I didn't even know what it was. Then I THOUGHT it was a .355-7.62X39 case, not so. It is a 9.3X39 in actuality. Russia's answer to the .300AAC Subsonic. Pretty crafty, they shoehorn the 286 gr. 9.3mm bullet in a 7.62X39 case and come up with a shorty 9.3 Mauser!

Now Roman has become a negative influence on me!

You were influenced long before Roman came along.

They don't say it anywhere but they fixed a problem with the 7.62x39 case either by design or accident. That taper! This looks closer to a straight wall and should feed from a normal box magazine without that crazy curve. I think the Grendel and 6.8 mags might work out. Roman found one clip of a goober toying with one, bemused me. He had pulled a couple bullets from some Wolf ammo and substituted a Barnes TRX 9.3 hunting bullet, another with a pulled 95 gr. Makarov slug. He wasted them on watermelons rather than chronographing them (could have magic markered the shiny Mak bullet) or shot into a sand bucket, but high marks for mischief.

I think the word is demented.

Don't you know diddly? And it is only the buffer tube that is different. They did that specifically to piss off an over the hill redneck in Arkansas,.

Easy now Gary, I live here too and don't go for that stuff.

when the surplus boom got going. I never had to worry about non-mil spec parts. I never saw any back then. Must be a China thing.

So far it seems to be only the buffer tube. I can throw that into the parts pile. No one would want that. Just a shame there is a bunch of iffy parts out there. Not my gun anyway.
