that we might someday see a cast bullet mould in that "scalloped bullet" design like those "Honey Badger" black Hills loads. There is some sound science in the fluid dynamics of that and I think it fantastic for the cast bullet application. However we are so small a market it may not attract enough interest to warrant.

The robustness of a solid with some wound cavity traits of an expanding bullet. Is there a manufacturing element I'm missing? I know moulds are both milled and cherry reamed.

Lead ain't as strong as copper alloy. Cast it too hard and it becomes brittle. Softer alloy rivets.

I would stick with the Keith SWC. It's hard to beat.

and straight penetration. The flutes do the same thing in a more dramatic manner. Sort of like doubling the size of the flat point. Being a homogeneous metal I think normal cast in that shape would do well also. So what if it bends a little? Jacketed will also.

I have some .22 LR that I have been experimenting with. They are lead and will be useful for conceptual testing.

one by Charlie Kelsey back 20 years ago or so. He came up with pretty much the same design with the flutes. He was a good friend and sent us a big box of the bullets to test for penetration and such. They weren't a cast lead as they are too hard but I am not sure what they are.They don't look like any jacketed material I have seen before, maybe a zinc coating over lead? They are heavy and hard and we loaded them up to do the testing in a 454 Casull. Before we could finish the testing Charlie was killed. He was found in a ditch with a couple of bullet holes in his head. I still have the bullets and haven't done any more with them. But as far as I know all these swirl type bullets are a spin off of Charlie's bullet of 20 years or more ago.

were made of a highly compressed powder that would be frangible if they hit something hard. Charlie wanted us to try them out on game animals. So they are not lead or jacketed.

Man I'd love to have a boatail 147 gr.

to be a 3 piece mold? Front part similar to a hollow point setup.

I can't see why CNC can't mill that, simple cross.

He custom makes molds via his CNC machine all the time for customers. I'm betting he could do one for you at a reasonable cost.

Cost would be a factor in doing just one set of molds but E D M has been used to cut some some extremely precise designs.
